観光地活性化への取り組み・環境デザイン

The enervation of local communities around tourist sights harms the appeal of the region. This phenomenon is quite common in Japan, and its causes range from the obsolescence of tourist resources to the devastation of nature, population decrease and an aging society. An increasing number of hot spring regions boasting excellent spring quality are on the brink of being unable to survive as communities. Indeed, some have not a moment to lose. Normally, it would be preferable to create lively tourist interaction spaces that reap the strengths and benefits of the attractive natural and historical resources and lifestyles of the region. Community revitalization must be achieved through the cooperation of residents, farmers, local industries and the government, and the happiness one feels at building one’s community fosters pride and helps to sink roots for the sustainability of communities.
